Wolf Program: Winter Explorers
The Wolf Program is a dynamic, child-led journey where play-based learning and the power of choice guide every day’s adventures. Our experienced educators support children as they explore, take risks, and build resilience in an outdoor setting that fosters independence, confidence, and a sense of belonging.
At Out and About, we believe that nature offers a space for children to grow in ways that indoor environments simply cannot replicate. Winter, in particular, is a season that teaches perseverance and adaptability. It invites us to slow down, bundle up, and discover beauty in the cold. Our goal is to help children and families embrace winter, understanding that with the right layers, mindset, and a spirit of adventure, time spent outdoors in any weather can be deeply rewarding.
We also encourage families to carry this spirit home, making space in their own routines to get outside, however briefly, to connect with the land, the season, and each other.
Winter Explorers Program Highlights
Shelter Building and Fire Skills
Children will learn how to create safe, cozy shelters and build small, supervised fires to stay warm in the winter woods. These experiences teach problem-solving, collaboration, and essential outdoor safety while showing children that they are capable and resourceful even in challenging conditions.
Animal Tracks and Wildlife Wonders
Together, we will explore the fascinating world of winter wildlife. Children will learn to recognize animal tracks, discover who has been moving through the snow, and uncover how local animals adapt and thrive during the colder months.
Music in the Forest
We will be joined by a guest musician who will help bring rhythm and warmth to our outdoor experience. Around the fire, we will sing, listen, and create music inspired by the season, reminding us that creativity and community can flourish in any weather.
Snow Play and Nature Games
From snow sculptures to nature-inspired games and frozen treasure hunts, children will dive into hands-on, imaginative play. These experiences encourage teamwork, sensory exploration, and a deeper connection to the land.
Whether your child is new to outdoor learning or already a seasoned explorer, this winter program offers a space to build resilience, celebrate curiosity, and discover joy in every flake of snow. Join us as we embrace the magic of winter, learning that with the right layers, a little courage, and an open heart, there is no such thing as bad weather.
