What is the Wolf Program?

This Spring, our Wolf Program brings play and project-based education to life outdoors, blending Forest and Nature School principles with hands-on, inquiry-based learning. Each week, children explore a new theme that supports their interests, development, and confidence. This is all guided by our experienced educators.

Through play, exploration, and co-learning, children build meaningful connections with the land while developing real-life skills they can carry into every part of their lives.

What We Explore

We follow the lead of the children and their interests, but are prepared with skill building invitations to enhance their outdoor skill set! Our curriculum weaves together essential outdoor and educational skills, including:

Personalized Nature Field Journals

Children create durable journals using cardboard covers, twine binding, and waterproof paper.
Skills: observation, documentation, responsibility.

Paracord Survival Bracelets

Learn simple paracord braids and knots, creating wearable emergency cordage.
Skills: fine motor strength, knot-tying, practical survival applications.

Whittling

Using child-safe whittling tools, children safely carve roasting sticks and other creations.
Skills: tool safety, knife-handling basics, patience.

Mini Debris Shelters

Build scale-model shelters using sticks, bark, moss, and debris found on the forest floor.
Skills: structure-building, engineering, spatial reasoning.

Charcoal Burned Nature Medallions

Use charcoal embers (with instructor help) to burn holes in wood slices and create medallions.
Skills: fire safety, patience, creativity.

DIY Forest First Aid Pouches

Learning to sew! Craft small pouches from canvas or felt and stock them with kid-friendly first aid basics.
Skills: safety awareness, preparedness, responsibility.

Navigation Bead “Ranger Beads”

Create pace-counting beads used for tracking distance during hikes.
Skills: navigation, counting, pacing, outdoor math.

Bushcraft Cooking Tools

Children make simple tools like stirring sticks, pot hooks, or campfire trivets.
Skills: tool use, problem-solving, fire-cooking readiness.

Water Filtration Models

Build models of filtration systems using sand, gravel, charcoal, and cloth.
Skills: survival knowledge, environmental science.

Natural Cordage Twisting

Learn to make rope from plant fibers such as cattails, grasses, or inner bark.
Skills: hand strength, patience, understanding natural materials.

DIY Nature Whistles

Create simple woodland whistles using elder wood, reeds, or split sticks.
Skills: carving basics, sound exploration, patience.

Garden Starter Pots

Growing our garden! Plant seeds in biodegradable pots and learn about caring for young plants.
Skill focus: gardening and understanding growth cycles.

Fire Bundles
