Surrounded by the natural beauty of Petawawa’s rural landscape, our summer program invites young children into a calm, nurturing forest space where they can explore at their own pace. For little ones preparing for their first school experiences, this program supports the development of confidence, independence, and a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
At Out & About, we believe children are capable, curious learners. Our nature-based program follows their interests, offering age-appropriate invitations that build early skills in a way that feels like play. The forest becomes a gentle and engaging co-teacher—inviting wonder, movement, connection, and growth.

School Readiness Skills: Practicing routines, transitions, listening, turn-taking, and early self-help skills like dressing, snack independence, and toileting
Early Nature Skills: Simple bushcraft like collecting materials, exploring tools with guidance, and building with sticks and stones
Hands-On Learning: Nature stories, songs, art, and sensory-rich activities that invite language, creativity, and joyful discovery
Emotional Awareness: Daily check-ins and gentle routines that help children recognize and name their feelings, practice calming strategies, and build resilience
