Wonder and Play in Nature
March break is an ideal time for children to enjoy nature. Outdoor exploration allows children to satisfy their curiosity and play freely in natural settings. The outdoors is full of adventures, where rocks, trees, and streams can inspire imagination and happiness.
Monday: Fire & Shelter (Survival Skills)
Spark making with tinder and fire building/safety
Create mini shelters and dens for themselves or forest creatures
Tuesday: Tools and Whittling
Safe Tool Use (knives, saws, peelers depending on age)
Learn to make your own mallet
Wednesday: Guest Speaker Day (Indigenous Teachings & Learning)
Guest Educator: An Indigenous knowledge keeper shares teachings, stories, and practices about the land, traditions, and connection to nature.
Hands-On Activity: Could include storytelling, drumming, traditional crafts, plant/medicine walk, or teachings about respect for the land (depending on guest).
Thursday: Stitching and Weaving
Web of connections game (yarn ball).
Stitching and weaving using natural and recycled materials.
Project Options:
Stitch a small pouch or nature journal cover.
Weave on simple looms using yarn, twine, or forest finds (grasses, reeds, branches).
Friday: Celebration and Cooking
Group feast cooked over the fire
Free Play & Exploration
Closing Circle: Storytelling around the fire
